As a mom of young kids, time is a valuable commodity for me. When my boys are finally in bed, it’s MY time. There’s something so satisfying about sitting down, without a child climbing on me, to watch or read something that doesn’t have singing animals or the Paw Patrol theme song. It’s easy for me to put off spending time with the Lord and reading my Bible, and then decide I’ll just catch up the next day because I’m too tired to keep my eyes open. I tell myself, “I’m too busy, too tired, too distracted to spend time in God’s presence. I’ll wait until I have more time, so I can really focus.”
But, the funny thing is, I’ve learned that not setting aside time with God just makes me feel MORE busy, MORE tired, and MORE distracted. There is nothing the enemy would like more than for me “not to have time for God” today. Friends, we need to FIGHT for our alone time with God. Not only is it a priceless honour to sit in the loving arms of the Creator of the Universe, but we also need to spend TIME with Him to be CHANGED by Him. That little voice that tells you to “just go to bed because you’re too tired for God” is the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. And he will destroy us, quietly, one day at a time.
We can’t afford NOT to spend time with God. Whatever your busy looks like: school, work, your spouse, your kids, or your own business, it will often be a sacrifice to bring your praise every day – some more than others; but I tell you truly, when you choose Jesus above your comfort, your time, and your to-do list, He is SO faithful, and will refresh your soul. Again and again, I’m surprised how I can sacrifice sleep to spend time praying or reading God’s Word, and then feel completely refreshed and energized the next day. We are spiritual beings, who need to be continually restored and transformed by the Holy Spirit. Beth Moore says, “living in the Spirit doesn’t just change your life, it changes your day“. Whatever sacrifice you need to make in order to spend time in God’s presence every day, know that His living water will revive your soul like nothing else, and change you from the inside out.
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” (Hebrews 13:15)
Don’t forget to join us for a powerful time of prayer and worship tonight at 7pm in the sanctuary!
Oh Lord, change me like only You can
