When we are looking for something in time will usually find it. When desperate to find something that is lacking or missing, we end up pulling off the covers, pushing furniture aside and emptying drawers then we are bound to find it! That is how it is with our relationship with God. Sure, when things are going good and everything this is ‘fine’, you go to church sometimes, pick up your Bible occasionally, maybe volunteer from time to time and for the most part you enjoy life.
However, when you are going through a tough time you feel desperate. You may find yourself actually getting down on your knees to pray, going to church whenever the doors are open, reading your Bible all the time, even listening to ‘religious programming’…because you REALLY need to God to SHOW UP.
This great verse in Jeremiah 29:13, reminds us that when we deliberately make the effort to look for God He WILL be found by us. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” It shouldn’t take some cataclysmic event or report to make us do many of the things we should put into practice on a regular basis, as we strive to know God more. God desires to know us and be known by us. He isn’t some remote deity, that is aloof and doesn’t care. Scripture tells us that He is our Friend and He desires to help and guide us, ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3).
With our friendships, we cherish our time together, make time for each other and do what we can to establish a good ‘relationship’. God is the same. At the start of this year, take time every day to look for God. Each day set time aside reading your Bible and praying. When we want to nurture anything and allow it grow, we need to ‘feed it’. Our relationship with God doesn’t need food, however, it does need our time and even sacrifice. As we rearrange our schedules and priorities and spend time each day with God it is bound strengthen our relationship with him. As we develop an ‘every day faith’ it will make such a positive difference through ALL the seasons of life because we have come to trust in a God who is known to us!
