A mother feeds her infant so that he or she can grow. A gardener waters the plant so the plant can grow. Food is needed for growth. But can Fasting from Food lead to growth?

Yes…….BUT ONLY when the physical food is replaced by spiritual food. As otherwise, it is nothing but a diet plan that is bound to fail.   We need spiritual food as it enables us to connect with God who is Spirit. John 4:24 says, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.. “

Physical fasting will lead to physical hunger (Matthew 4: 1-11). But when we feed ourselves spiritually while we physically fast by meditating on the Word of the Lord and by humbling ourselves before the Lord in Prayer, just as our Lord Jesus did, we will be able to OVERCOME the devil, the author of all evil in this world.

Fasting is a powerful posture of Humility in front of a Mighty and Sovereign God.  Restraining ourselves from the delights that this world is a sign of offering ourselves in submission to serve the most adorable king. James 4: 7 says ”Submit yourselves to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.  Let us remember God’s word that gives us confidence “….He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
