Day 7: Invitation to Intimacy

By Katherine Arias (January 23, 2021)

Do you try to keep your temper when you’re hungry but often fail to do so? Maybe your life seems in a rut and you are not sure if fasting is drawing you closer to God. If this is how you feel, you have reached a milestone in your fast. It’s time to surrender – for Jesus said “… apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)

Have we asked the Lord to completely fill us with the Holy Spirit? Our hunger for food will be silenced by our hunger for God as we get into deeper intimacy with the person of the Holy Spirit. Intimacy is developed and cultivated, and it comes as we surrender our life to the Holy Spirit.

A life of intimacy with the Holy Spirit is a life lived in the Holy Spirit and a life filled with the Holy Spirit. That’s why Paul says in Romans 14:17 “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” As we choose to live in the Spirit, He fills us with Himself, because He desires to live in and through us.

The beauty of intimacy is in knowing and being known. The Holy Spirit already knows us even more than we know ourselves. We will get to know the Holy Spirit intimately when we spend time with Him so we understand His heart, what grieves Him, what makes Him happy. Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5)

[PRAYER]

Jesus, I declare my need today for more of the Holy Spirit in my life. I accept this invitation to intimacy. Help me to make room for the Spirit to fill me and guide me in all truth. Amen.
