Day 20: Be Still And Know

By Seth Partridge  (February 5, 2021)

Psalm 46:10a “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

1 Kings 19:12‭-‬13“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

In a year where so much was taken away from us, I found myself filling my time with distractions as an escape.

So why fast? Why give up more when we have lost so much?

Fasting lets God add to our lives through subtraction.

When we replace something we consume with seeking God, it quiets the noise of our lives so we can hear him whisper.

When we still and quiet ourselves before God, he blesses us with his voice and his presence. Not as a reward for effort, but because he wants us to be with him and make us whole.

When I hear his voice, it is almost always in the silence. It might be a verse that stands out, a warm presence I feel when I worship, and very rarely an audible sentence in my mind.

He is waiting for you in the stillness. Will you meet him?

[PRAYER]

God, I want you more than anything. Help me find stillness and your presence so I can experience your life and freedom more deeply.
